Fashion Week 2010 - Jason Wu

It has been fashion week for the past two weeks and I have been looking at some of the collections - I do like Jason Wu - his name probably sounds familiar to you - he custom-designed one-shoulder, floor-length white chiffon gown, that Michele Obama wore at the inaugural balls. I thought that dress was beautiful - she also wore about four other creations of his - prompting many in the media to consider her his "career-launcher". Here are a few of his collection from this past fashion week.

The Runaways

We watched the Runaways tonight - I thought it was a good movie - it definitely brought you back to the 70s and rock and roll. I definitely remember Joan Jett. I had her album Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. I really didn't know too much about her before that. This movie definitely changed that. They were an all-girl rock band formed by teenage girls living near Hollywood, CA., and heavily manipulated by their manager Kim Fowley. The band ultimately succeeds on their own merits as musicians, becoming the first all-girl rock-band to ever break into the world of arena-filling hard rock acts. It was a harsh reality of bands on the road - it did show all the drugs, alcohol and sex. This was mostly about Cherie Currie - the lead singer portrayed by Dakota Fanning - boy has she grown up - she is now 16 years of age. Kristen Stewart of the Twilight fame portrays Joan Jett - she has the look down perfectly from the shaggy haircut to the black leather and jumpsuits. A New York Times review of the film quotes Joan Jett as saying that when she listened to the first tape of Kristen Stewart singing one of her songs, she thought it was a mistake and that it was actually her. Kristen also learned how to play the guitar for this roll. I would definitely see it but it is not for children - rated R.

The Millennium Trilogy - Stieg Larrson

As you can see by the books by the bed I am reading the last of this trilogy. This series is great. My mom had the first one and passed it along to me - she didn't care for it very much - I on the other hand thought it was great - I could not put it down. The primary characters in the series are Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist. Lisbeth is an intelligent, eccentric woman in her twenties with a photographic memory whose social skills are rather poor. Blomkvist is an investigative journalist, a celebrity in his own right, and has a history not totally dissimilar to Larsson's own. In the first one they solve a mystery. I don't want to tell you too much but you should definitely read it. When I was on the cape I finished the first one and got the second one. I finished that one today and got the third one today also. At his death, Larsson left behind manuscripts of three completed but unpublished novels in a series. He wrote them for his own pleasure after returning home from his job in the evening, making no attempt to get them published until shortly before his death. Larsson left about three quarters of a fourth novel on a notebook computer, now possessed by his partner, Eva Gabrielsson; synopses or manuscripts of the fifth and sixth in the series, which he intended to contain an eventual total of ten books, may also exist.

You should definitely give it a read!!

Hi Everyone!

The Bounty Hunter - Gerald Butler and Jennifer Aniston

We saw this movie tonight. I would rate it a 6. It was good - not great. It was probably about 20 minutes too long. Jennifer Aniston seems to always play the same role. She is this beautiful, picture perfect women who lives in this gorgeous apartment that she can afford on a reporter's salary - I don't think so. Gerald Butler was good - he could have cleaned up his act a little. A rental it is but I am glad I didn't see it in the theater.
