An Object of Beauty - Steve Martin

I just started this book by Steve Martin - yes that Steve Martin a wild and crazy guy!! He has written also a play Picasso at the Lapin Agile and also wrote a bestselling collection of comic pieces, Pure Drivel. He also wrote the best selling novella Shopgirl which was made into a movie which started Claire Danes and also himself. He also won a grammy for his banjo playing. I am finding it interesting. It is about Lacey Yeager who is an ambitious young art dealer who uses everything at her disposal to advance in the world of the high-end art trade in New York City.
I will let you know more when I finish it.

Mockingjay - by Suzanne Collins

I just finished the third book in the trilogy of the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It was so good. They are currently making the first book into a movie. It is a young adult book but I really enjoyed it. I couldn't put it down once I started. I don't want to give anything away about the last book - so you have to read all of the books.

Bryce Dallas Howard - the new face of Kate Spade

Bryce Dallas Howard aka Victoria from Eclipse and also Ron Howard's daughter is the new face of Kate Spade spring/summer 2011 campaign. The beautiful 29-year-old actress looks absolutely adorable and playful in the ad campaigns made by famous fashion photographer Norman Jean Roy. I just love these outfits - so bright and springy - and she looks great in them!!

Charlie Angels Remake

Charlie Angels is being remade for television. What do you think? I think Aaron Spelling is rolling over in his grave. There are some television shows and movies that should not be remade. I thought the original three angels - Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Jaclyn Smith were perfect. I loved watching the show and seeing them kick some butt and solving cases. The three of them had real chemistry.

The new angels are Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh.

For best picture I only saw two - The Kids are all right and Toy Story 3 - probably Black Swan will win

For Best Actress - everyone says Natalie Portman but some say that it is Annette Bening's time

For Best Supporting Actor - Christian Bale will probably win

For Best supporting actress - Everyone says that Melissa Leo did a great job but Hailee Steinfeld did an amazing job for a 14-year-old. Who knows.

Some interesting tidbits - Helen Bonham Carter filmed the King's Speech on the weekends and filmed the last two Harry Potter movies - Bellatrix - during the week.

Colin Firth and Meg Tilly (The Big Chill) met on the set of Valmont (1990) and entered into a relationship - they had a child together - and lived in Canada for about five years - he is still friends with Meg and his son is living with him and becoming an actor.

New Shows in January

A bunch of new shows started this past month - have you watched any of them? We have watched Off the Map - Executive producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers (Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice) and creator Jenna Bans (Grey's Anatomy) bring to viewers an uplifting medical drama that explores how far one has to go in order to truly heal.

The show is about a tiny town in the South American jungle which has one understaffed, under-stocked medical clinic. There are three doctors who just landed on the island, Drs. Lily Brenner, Mina Minard and Tommy Fuller. All of these young doctors are running away from personal demons, but they aren't the only ones with emotional baggage. Dr. Ben Keeton was the youngest Chief of Surgery at UCLA. He walked away from it all to found the clinic. Together with his right-hand doctor, Otis Cole, the mysterious Dr. Ryan Clark and local doctor Zita Alvarez, he'll teach the newcomers how to save lives in the most challenging environment they've ever worked in—while taking them on adventures of a lifetime.

In this ensemble drama, six doctors who have lost their way will go to the ends of the earth to try to remember the reasons why they wanted to become doctors in the first place.

It is entirely shot in Hawaii and Rachelle Lefevre (victoria from the first two Twilight films) is one the doctors.

The other show is Harry's Law - with Kathy Bates. It is an American legal comedy-drama television series created by David E. Kelley. Harry's Law revolves around Harriet Korn, a recently-fired patent lawyer, and her group of associates as they come together to form a unique law practice in a rundown shoe store in Cincinnati.

Breaking Dawn

They are shooting Breaking Dawn down in Baton Rouge these past few months. They will be wrapping up in the middle of February and moving to Vancouver to finish the two movies. Here is the logo for the next two movies.

Golden Globes

What did you think about the Golden Globes - I watched the pre-show on E and it was good. The dresses were beautiful - I loved most of them except Helen Bonham Carter - she looked like a mess. The guys were good looking too! I thought Ricky Gervais was mean, sarcastic, cruel and really over the top!! I don't think he will be back next year. It looks like Black Swan and Social Network were big winners. I was really glad that Glee won too!

True Grit - the original

We watched True Grit - the original with John Wayne and Kim Darby on AMC last night. It was great. I really enjoyed it. Personally I can't see why anyone would remake that movie. They were perfect in it and also where they filmed it was beautiful. Glen Campbell and Robert Duvall were also in it. Kim Darby was actually 22 when she made that movie portraying a 14 year old!! John Wayne actually didn't like Kim Darby. He also said he didn't have any chemistry with her and also she was the lousiest actress I ever worked with. Well they both did a great job - you would have never thought that after watching that movie. If you have never seen True Grit you should watch it!!

People Choice Awards

Did you watch the People Choice Awards last night? I watched some of it and then caught some clips this morning. Eclipse was a big winner last night - won four awards - favorite movie, favorite drama movie, favorite on-screen team and also best actress for Kristen Stewart. The three of them, Kristen, Rob and Taylor all flew in on a private jet and arrived about an hour into the show - they only stayed to get their awards and then flew right back to Baton Rouge to continuing filming Breaking Dawn. Other big winners were Johnny Depp, Taylor Swift, Selena, Gomez, Jane Lynch, Glee, and Zac Efron. Queen Latifah was the host and did a pretty good job. Hope you enjoyed the show!!
