Gettysburg

We went to Gettysburg last weekend - we had a great time. The city is full of history - from the battlefields to the actual farms, and houses. If you go you should definitely go to the Visitor's Center. It is new and shows a film, cyclodrama and museum. Very informative. We also drove around the fields and saw where the fighting was. My dad and mom had gone a long time ago and my dad ran across the field that was where Pickett's charge was yelling charge !! Needless to say my mom was a bit embarrassed. (Dad was a history teacher and loved all of it). We ate at some nice restaurants too. It was a coincidence but this past week on April 12, 150 years ago the civil war started. For the next four or five years they will be celebrating the 150 year anniversary with different things going on each weekend. There were quite a bit of people there visiting - a lot of school kids and bus trips - I am sure this summer it will be mobbed.

  1. Ellen, you forgot to mention that you almost didn't get a chance to go to Gettysburg because of the possible closing of our National government and therefore the National Parks system. Word must have gotten to Washington to get their acts together because Ellen and her hubby want to go to Gettysburg. The Republicans and Democrats made sure that happened!
